Even if it all had been a case of mistaken identity and the policemen had asked me to forgive them for the confusion, I felt angry as I had had to spend the night in jail. As I was coming back home from my work, all of a sudden I realized I was being followed by a black car. As far as I was concerned I knew I had no enemies and I hadn't caused problems to anyone, but as you never be completely sure I stopped my car and waited for them to come to me.
They did the same thing and two men came to my car. They showed me their IDs and let me know I was being arrested for a murderer that had taken place in the flat where I lived. I thought it was all a joke and I asked them if we were on "Candid Camera?" Nobody laughed and one of the detectives said I should be more ser
ious as my situation was quite complicated and I could spend the rest of my life in jail for having murdered my neighbor.
I tried to explain them I didn’t even know the man and the night of the crime I had been out with my friends who could testify for me. The policemen asked me to join them to the police station where I was about to tell them everything I knew about the incident and call a lawyer if I thought it would suit me.
When we got there their boss wanted to know the entire story and I had to declare everything I knew, which wasn’t at all important. I simply told them he wasn’t even my neighbor. One of the detectives got angry and started threatening me, but I kept my coolness and I told them I wouldn’t admit a crime I had no committed. Moreover as to make a fool of them I simply told them they had arrested the wrong person as I wasn’t living in flat 13 but 30 that was right across the street of the place where the murderer had taken place. They had taken me for the woman who had killed the man after she had robbed him.
Even if I was innocent and they had to admit they had made a mistake, I had to spend the night there until the formalities were taken care of. Now I’m thinking of bringing them to trial as they had no idea how to handle the situation and made accusations without a real base.
