A fault confessed is half redressed

Q:   Ask a Question about A fault confessed is half redressed
A fault confessed is half redressed by Cristina Nuta -

Each time we make a serious mistake it is very difficult for us to recognize that it was our fault. We feel embarrassed to say 'yes, I did that' or 'yes, I said that' and we prove to be irresponsible for our deeds.

When we are little and we broke a vase while our parents are away from home, we live a nightmare until they turn back home. We know that is our mother's favourite vase and that she will become very angry. But the moment we are asked who has broken the vase, we say that we don't know because we haven't touched it. Anyway, we are the only ones in the house, so it can't have been the wind which has broken it or any supernatural force. Still, there is something which proves we are the guilty persons: our red cheeks and our restraint of looking our parents in their eyes.

But the moment we recognize we are guilty for having done wrong one thing or another, our fault is half redressed. If we have the courage to tell our mother that we have broken a plate and a glass while trying to wash the dishes and make her a surprise when she comes back home from work, then our mother will surely be less angry. She will understand it was an unhappy happening and that we really feel sorry for that.

The same happens within our group of friends. There are moments when we lie to a friend for our benefit in a certain context but our friend finds out about our little and innocent lie. At first he is disappointed and does not trust in us any more, but if we try to talk to him, recognize it was our fault to lie and the reasons for which we adopted such behaviour, maybe our friend will understand our point of view and he will forgive us.

Therefore, the most important thing is to have the strength to recognize our faults and to give an explanation for what we have done wrong. And this will make people around us admire and respect us more, because sincerity is the most appreciated quality one can have in life.
