A new home for a masterpiece - Mona Lisa

Q:   Ask a Question about A new home for a masterpiece - Mona Lisa
The world’s best known painting, Mona Lisa, has now moved to a smart new lodging that it is hoped will allow more than 6.6 million people who visit the Louvre each year to see her.

Mona Lisa, Leonardo da Vinci’s famously enigmatic 500 years old master piece, was kept in a hall for four years which was a temporary accommodation. But now it is placed in an airtight, unbreakable glass case on a mottled beige wall in the museum’s splendidly refurbished Salle des Etats.

The portrait has got a new place to settle down in the middle of 850 sq meter gallery which gives it a lot more space as compared to smaller Salle Rosa. The renovation was of €4.8m which was provided by Japanese television network NTV.

A Louv re spokeswoman named Aggy Lerolle told that this painting was reverenced like no other painting till now. He also said that crowd gathering in front of it is usual and so the new gallery will provide a bigger and better place.

Renovation of the Salle de Etats was designed by the Peruvian architect named Lorenzo Piqueras. Mona Lisa was kept along with other 50 paintings of 16th century from Venice like the Titian, Tintoretto and Bassano, and it was kept opposite the largest painting in Louvre’s collection known as Wedding Feast at Cana by Veronese which is 7 meter by 10 meter. In comparison with this painting the 53cm by 76 cm Mona Lisa, painted in between 1503 and 1506, looks really tiny. But it is a fact that out of the two the latter one is more popular

The master piece has survived the transfer between the French king’s palaces and recently from the visits to US and Japan. When a patriotic Italian tried to smuggle her back to her native land she went missing for two years. Now she is pleased with her new move. A natural and artificial light is glazed from top of the ceiling while from below a seven color LED light throws a glow which resembles to daylight.
