These are extraordinary times for traveling, for knowing and improving, for spending holidays whenever one wants, at home, or abroad, in Romania, Europe or South America for example.
Recently Romania has joined the European Union family therefore, dreams long time repressed are allowed to come to life, waiting for fulfillment.
Mine has always been to spend Christmas in the European Capitals, in a different one each year.
I will walk in the streets decked with bells, garlands, evergreens and glittering decorations. I will admire the front lawns of houses, trees and shrubs strung with twinkling electric lights in a symphony of red and green - symbolic colors of the Christmas season. I will stop in front of the store windows displaying nativity scenes or Santa C
laus and his elves busily building Christmas toys. If I go inside I will certainly stop at the toy departments, veritable playgrounds for animated dolls, mechanized animals and little trains running endlessly around their circular trucks, whistling at the crossing.
In the city squares there will be large trees which fascinate the young and the elderly alike, reminding them of the legend that says that all the trees in the forests bloomed on the night Christ was born.
Finally I will see some of the landmarks of the famous European patrimony, the Eiffel Tower, the Buckingham Palace, Schonbrunn, St. Peter Cathedral, in the fairy tale the atmosphere of kindness and jubilation.
Nevertheless, I will always come back to enjoy the Romanian way of celebrating, full of warmth and gaiety, good will and hospitality.
We too, have a lot to offer Europe and the world, Brancusi’s masterpieces, Enescu’s songs, the fabulous monasteries, the medieval castles and so on.
Near my Christmas tree, at home I will rediscover essential sameness through an awareness of differences between the Romanian and European values, while the Christmas carols and songs will consecrate the one and only Christmas spirit renewed in human hearts.
