A Short Biography of Charlize Theron

Q:   Ask a Question about A Short Biography of Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron was born in Benoni, a small but beautiful city in the greater Johannesburg-area, South Africa on August 7th, 1975. Her mother, Gerda Jacoba Aletta, is German, while her late father, Charles Jacobus Theron, was French (she was named after him).

Charlize started her modeling career when she was 16 years old. She started in Europe but after one year, in 1992 she decided to move to New York for bigger opportunities. She didn't like being a model though, and decided to try her luck with ballet, which had been her biggest passion as a child. Unfortunately, a sever knee injury prevented her in following her dreams.

After some unsuccessful attempts in signing with a movie agent, she received her first role in 1995, as a young mother in park, in a low budged movie. Even if that role was a minor one, she received some attention and soon she was selected to play in more important movies like Advocate (1997); Mighty Joe Young (1998); The Cider House Rules (1999); The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000) and The Italian Job (2003).

The first important award came in 2004 when she received her first Academy Award for her performance in Monster (2003).
