5000 years ago, people thought that illnesses are the result of evil living in humans bodies. They also believed that gods and superior spirits are punishing people through diseases. The practice of magic and witchcraft was popular amongst many tribes, through charms, images of gods and spells to drive away the evil spirits. A medicine man's kit would contain teeth, belles, lizard skin, flints, animal claws and carved sticks.
People also started using herbal remedies and by trial and error learned how to cure stomach aches and fevers. They sucked the blood from the wound and bound the affected limb to stop it from spreading.
