Are we all equal?

Are we all equal?by Cristina Nuta -

Do people fight enough for the prevention of cruelty to animals? Which is the difference between abandoned animals and pets?

The first thing I should point out is that one of the biggest problems of our time is related to the abandoned animals. All of us can see many stray cats and dogs on the streets, animals which try to find shelter and food in order to survive. But not to forget that some of them are terribly dangerous for citizens: they can bite people and if these animals suffer from different illnesses such as rabies, the bitten persons can take the illness, too. But, compared to these poor animals, we can find another class, the pets. Their way of life is absolutely different from the one the animals on the street have: they are lucky to have a master who t akes care of them, they have food and shelter, they are clean and they are offered protection and affection.

However, the most important fact is that there must be something we can do in order to help these poor animals, as there should be a way out to make them feel equal with the others. This, of course, can be realized only if we give out entire interest in helping them, and in this respect, we should think particularly at completing building work on animal welfare centers in our country.

Anyway, there is something that makes us think that people will contribute to take part in these actions. And this is related to persons who give money in the help of abandoned animals, as they have probably pets at home and are animal lovers. There have been persons who have left great sums of money in the help of abandoned animals. For instance, Agnes Mackae, a widow from Portsoy, Grampian, left her entire state of 600,000 pounds for a building centers that care for abused, abandoned and stray cats and dogs.

To conclude with, I think that, by no means should we give up our hope for social justice in what concerns animals, which should have a shelter, a master, to be loved and not abused, as I do believe human nature has inexhaustible resources for helping poor animals to be equal to pets, which live a far better life. Therefore, the big question 'Are we all equal?' could have a positive answer.
