Last year HotHead Games launched a clever little Xbox LIVE Arcade game called Braid. The game is charming, with some good time-based puzzles, that really stood out. The Jonathan Blow's game is now available for download on the PlayStation Network.
The Xbox 360 version has been left unchanged, so if you played that one isn't really worth to download this one. That being said Braid gives a phenomenal gaming experience. You should be prepared one of the most captivating stories you'll probably find in a video game.
The game doesn't really have much backgrounds or explanations but is a good thing because it focuses on the narrative part. You play with a young man, Tim, and you're walking thought a lot of worlds, collecting puzzle pieces. You'll have to solve a different manipulation-ba
sed puzzle for each piece. The story is narrated in the beginning of each world, and the puzzle pieces are a clue to the plot.
Every stage has a different time-bending device, from simply rewind time, to work in team with a ghost of your former actions or use a sphere to slow down a small area of the world. After playing the levels 2-6 you will unlock the first level, witch has an ending that will keep you thinking for days.
Graphically, Braid is really simple, 2D sprites over a static background, but it's really nice looking and the characters are stylish and nicely animated
The sound effects are simple, but efficiently used. For example rewinding time will rewind also the sound effects and music, a really great idea that helps keeping the ambiance.
The PS3 version doesn't have any new features, but is the same recommended experience. If you didn't check Braid until now give it a download; you won't regret it!
