Brueghel Family of Flemish Painters

Q:   Ask a Question about Brueghel Family of Flemish Painters
Pieter Brueghel (c. 1525-1569), was one of the greatest artists of his time.

He painted satirical and humorous pictures of peasant life, many of which include symbolic details illustrating folly and inhumanity, and a series of Months (five survive), including Hunters in the Snow (Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna).

The elder Pieter was nicknamed "Peasant" Brueghel. Two of his sons were painters.

Pieter Brueghel the Younger (1564-1638), called "Hell" Brueghel, specialized in religious subjects, and another son, Jan Brueghel (1568-1625), called 'Velvet' Brueghel, painted flowers and landand seascapes.
