If I were to characterize myself I would say that one of my major qualities is the fact that I like to be punctual. I always try to do my best in order to arrive in time at university or each time I have to date somebody. It is essential to know how to manage with our time and do almost all the activities we have in mind for a day. It is very important for me to be there in time because I don't like others to wait for me as I myself hate having to wait for others more than five minutes.
Let's take as an example a very common situation that I have many times come across during all these last years. I have a group of good friends but some of them are away from the city to study in other places. That is why each time they come home we talk and decide upon an hour and
a day to meet. And we even have our favourite place to meet, somewhere at ‘the corner’ of a street. Well, this isn’t so important, but what I want to underline is that some of my friends, to be more precise three of them, never respect the hour we decide to meet, even if they live very close to that ‘corner’. The rest of us have to wait for more than ten minutes for the others and sometimes it can be cold outside and we still have to wait.
But are we supposed to do that? Well, maybe we can understand if something occurs in the last minute and that person can't arrive in time at the meeting. But in my case this happens each time we gather and the situation has turned into an unpleasant one. And the fact that annoys me most is that they always find excuses and apologize, and they really don't care we have waited for them a thousand times.
I think all this is closely connected to one's education. If your parents have taught you that punctuality is very important in life because it gives trust among persons and the sense of responsibility, then you’ll try to respect this.
In a civilized society, where we all have the same rights, punctuality is an essential element we should take into consideration. People should be in time at their work, they should end projects at the promised date; then, the means of transport should arrive at their destination in accordance to their established programme and, therefore, the society will function correctly and there will be no chaos. And if persons around you fail to be punctual several times, try to give them some advice and, finally, they will change their bad habits of being late all the time.
