Craiova - My Native Town

Craiova - My Native Townby Cristina Nuta -

Craiova, the most important town of the Oltenia region, also known as the 'capital' of this region, is situated in the south- western part of Romania. Its population was of around 300.000 inhabitants two years ago and apart from native people one can find inhabitants of other nationalities as Greeks, Turks, Arabs and also gypsies.

I like my native town and I have always been proud of being born in the region of Oltenia. Even if many of the inhabitants of Romania have a negative opinion about Craiova and this region and say people here are of bad character, I still consider we are good people. We like to communicate and that is why we talk a lot in order to tell much information in little time. It is true that we speak a little louder in public places but I don’t t ake it as a disadvantage. I think curiosity characterizes us generally because we are not able to keep a secret as we want to find out spicy things about both known and less known persons.

Then, Craiova is a place where one can find attractive places: there is a very large park, called Romanescu Parc, one of the largest and most beautiful in Europe which contains a lake, a zoo, a cycle-racing track, a racecourse, plants and trees. Apart from this, there are many monuments, churches and the cathedral of Madona Dudu, together with the History Museum and the Art Museum. The cultural life is completed by the philharmonic orchestra, the National Theatre and the universities.

On the other hand, there are many restaurants, bars and discos arranged in unique and modern styles and one can choose a special type of music or atmosphere, depends on the tastes. At weekends people enjoy themselves a lot and there is a lot of movement on the roads and especially in the centre of the town.

We should finally point out that, lately, the town has known some nice changes: this winter young people, and not only, could enjoy them-selves on a skating rink, listening to the music coming from the musical fountain, recently built in the centre of the town. All these new improvements will make the city more attractive for the tourists, so don't hesitate in visiting Craiova because you won't regret this experience.
