Despite living in such a mercantile world, people still find time for voluntary work and still believe in charity

Despite living in such a mercantile world, people still find time for voluntary work and still believe in charityby Cristina Nuta -

The present society is considered to be a little mercantile and some people seem to have little feelings when it comes to the suffering around them. To be more precise, people only follow their preoccupations and show little interest to a neighbor’s pain or a relative’s sorrow. They say they are overwhelmed by their own daily problems and necessities that they don’t think of others.

On the other hand, time is a real enemy. Even if we want to spend more time to help a friend in need, we may probably not be able to do this because time doesn't permit us to.

However, there are people who really feel pity when seeing so many persons who suffer around them. Here we should refer to old persons in asylums who need the attention of younger persons, be that if their o wn families or that of simple strangers. Not to feel pity for a poor helpless old man in a charity house means you have no soul at all. That’s why some people still find time for voluntary work and still believe in charity. For example, there are groups of people, and especially teenagers, who want to help older persons with food, drink or clothes. They give little sums of money, saved from what they receive from their parents. They prefer to collect this and then think of a place where such old persons need their help. This is a great behavior and many people should follow their example. Why this? Because there are many rich families who are used to spend great amounts of money just on unnecessary stuff and who never think that poor persons need their attention.

Then, we should try to go to Church more often as it is an opportunity to become more charitable and to learn that helping other means helping your own soul. There are quite a lot of people who choose to spend an hour or more on a Sunday morning in order to listen to the liturgy and leave some money for a certain subscription.

To conclude, we should say that it is a great relief to think that there are still people who give their interest when it comes to help others. Think that only by doing well to others, god will help you overcome difficulties in life.
