Alcohol, tobacco and illicit drugs are a serious problem in our society nowadays, because more and more people use them from an early age. Even if they are aware of the dangers in time that these can produce on their minds and bodies, they continue to take them and have no ambition in giving them up, especially when they have reached a point at which it is so difficult to stop taking them.
But what happens when a pregnant woman consumes drugs? Will the unborn child be a healthy one? Evidently, he won't and this is very easy to imagine. We know that a pregnant woman has to take good care of her health: principally, she has to avoid stress and physical effort; then, she has to take care of her nutrition and, especially, give up smoking and alcohol, if she is addicted
to them. To all these, we have to add the most important danger, drugs, which can cause serious problems to the unborn child and the mother, too. If drugs are dangerous and risky for us as they represent a serious damage physically, socially, financially, mentally and emotionally, then they will surely affect the fetus, too. Therefore, if a person who consumes drugs is exposed to panic attacks, to get really paranoid, to have heart palpitations, seizures, dizziness, mood swings, breathing problems, black outs, memory loss and even sexual problems, then some of these disturbances can influence the baby, too. Consequently, the child can be born with heart problems, because, as we have mentioned previously, drugs provoke breathing problems and heart palpitations to the consumer. Moreover, the child can be born with different malformations, because drugs can have bad influences on the baby’s body. And not to forget mental problems, which are very serious, because memory loss is one of the most common results of drug addiction.
To conclude with, we should say that drugs are dangerous for all of us, but especially while pregnant because a pregnant woman risks having an unhealthy child as she hasn't taken care of her health. To my mind, a person addicted to drugs has to give up drugs long before she wants to have a baby, in order not to put in danger the baby's health.
