Early Life of Owen Wilson

Q:   Ask a Question about Early Life of Owen Wilson
On 18th November, 1968, Owen Cunningham Wilson was born in Dallas, Texas, USA. Born in Irish American and Roman Catholic family, his mother Laura Cunningham was a photographer & father Robert Andrew Wilson, an advertising executive and operator of a public television station.

Wilson has two siblings, elder brother Andrew Wilson & Luke Wilson the younger one. Wilson was a born troublemaker. Growing up between two brothers, young Owen, like many middle children, sought attention by getting into trouble.

During his stay in Dallas, Wilson attended The Lamplighter School, and St. Mark's School of Texas. He was expelled from the school when he was in the tenth grade because he stole his teacher's textbook so that he could do his homework.

As a result Wilson attended his junior and se nior years in high school at the New Mexico Military Institute rather than an ordinary academic school. Wilson was also on the School Football Club throughout his school years, like his brothers.

His active participation in the school team explains the twitched shape of his nose. His nose was broken twice when he was in school. After a spell in military academy in New Mexico, Wilson attended the University Of Texas. At the university, he met his friend & mentor Wes Anderson, who then, was his roommate.

Wilsonís meeting with Anderson was the one that changed things for him. They both struck a chord having their love of movies as a common factor between both of them.

Together the duo came up with a screenplay called Bottle Rocket. On reading the script, producer James L. Brooks gave them $5m to make a film out of the screenplay. It gave birth to their 1st film Bottle Rocket in 1996 which did not make much money at the box office but served as a launch pad for their future career in Hollywood.

After his first movie Owen took his baby steps towards Hollywood by ,aking appearances in movies such as The Cable Guy (1996), Anaconda (1997) and Armageddon (1998).

However, it was his performance in Shanghai Noon (2000) that helped him make the leap him from supporting actor to genuine movie star. Wilson, in his initial years, never took acting seriously. For him, writing was a passion. As a result of his love for his writing, he co-wrote & co-scripted many movies with Anderson.
