Effective Way of Breathing While Swimming To swim, it is very important that one should have breathing techniques as it helps in making rhythmic moves which ultimately makes swimming easier. It also helps in increasing speed and stamina.

One good breathing technique is One Arm Drill in which one has to breathe away from the stroking arm. The stroking should be performed with only the left hand and the right hand should be kept straight. The chin should be stuck to right shoulder.

In this position, the face will be downwards, facing the pool bottom. The body should be rolled on to the left side and the air should be inhaled while the arm enters the water. The left arm reaches the back of the hip after completing the stroke and the face goes back under water exhaling the air.

Another good technique is Sidekick Drill in whi ch one has to lie on the left side with the arm extended above the head.

The right arm should rest on the side.

The body should be maintained in such a position that the abdomen faces the side wall of the swimming pool. One should start exhaling the air when the face is entered into the water and turn the head towards right when he needs air.

There are breathing techniques for different swimming styles.

One is Front Crawl Swimming in which one breathes when the head turn sideways and the hand is recovering from the stroke. Air should be exhaled facing downwards. Other technique is Butterfly Swimming in which one should breathe while the head is being lifted and exhale air when the body lowers.

There are few tips that would help in breathing effectively.

When the face is in water the mouth should be closed.

One can also exhale with the help of nose, besides mouth. There should not be continuous exhalation of air in the water. When the face is inserted in the water, a small amount of air should be released initially to avoid water from entering the nose. After being lifted out of water, one should exhale as much as possible because the air in lungs is completely exhaled while the face is plunged into the water.
