Bethesda Softworks brings more and more downloadable content for Fallout 3. Naturally, this new content varies in terms of quality and price. Sadly, Mother ship Zeta is not one of the top quality contents for Fallout 3 even if it is quite fun, it fails in bringing anything new to the original game.
The player founds himself beamed on the board of a mother ship (most of the action takes place here). On this mother ship he will encounter waves after waves of aliens. However, these aliens are extremely predictable (even stereotypical at some point). Of course, the best way in killing these aliens is to use their own technology against them. This new technology is quite fun and interesting to use (for example the disintegrator function that does exactly what the name suggest).
s are nicely designed with a huge attention to details in surface textures and lights effects. Unfortunately the design is purely cosmetic and the interaction with environment almost zero. It is a shame when you think of all the possibilities a player could have on an alien mother ship. Mothership Zeta was a great chance to provide something new and entertainment instead of mindless alien killing. Usually, when a new downloadable content is available, this content should move the original game forward (through visual effects, new story line, some significant game play improvements etc). Mothership Zeta doesn't bring any of these and even more, it simplifies the original Fallout 3 game.
Mothership Zeta can be a nice experience for Fallout fans. However, this content is not much of a challenge (shooting aliens is not that hard especially with devastating weapons) and it doesn't last very long. Even if the graphic is good (is based on the same graphical engine as Fallout 3), the sound doesn't bring anything new. If you are a Fallout fan, you can spend some extra money on this content. However, if money is tight you may want to search for another downloadable content.
