by Herminne Tonita -Designing clothes is an art, just as painting, drawing or sculpting. It is a way of expressing your feelings, your emotions, your ideas connected to a certain topic or theme. Making clothes after some designs is another thing and that is a real industry. Nowadays making clothes is equivalent to making money in Milan, New York or Paris for brands like D&G, Prada or Gucci.
These names don't have mush to do with art but with glamour, style, luxury and celebrity. You wouldn't be a star at Hollywood if you didn’t wear a Cavalli design or a Versace one. Do you think that the designers who work for these world wide famous fashion empires care much about what the first purpose of fashion was, that is of art? Not really, taking into account they have to win the battle for the supremacy in the field in competitions in Paris or New York. They have created a name and a reputation and now they have to be very careful not to stain it with some creations that would disappoint the fashion critics.
I don’t say that these famous designers have forgotten about art and its blessing effect on people, but at the same time they have to stick to the trend, to what is fashionable or not, to impose some restrictions to their creativity so as not to overpass the limits imposed by…by whom?
We really don't know for sure who imposes these restrictions …who says what is fashionable or not… what we should wear or not…we dress in a particular way because we watch it on TV or in fashion magazines. Maybe there are times when what is fashionable doesn’t suit us at all, but we give up our personal opinion because we consider the experts know better. Many times they do but there are moments when we have to forget about what others say and just focus on our ideas, on our imagination and on what on would like to wear.
Giving up your personality and the clothes that really represent you is not very fashionable, in my opinion.
