First Encounter Assault Recon F.E.A.R. abbreviates as First Encounter Assault Recon. This is a horror themed video game that is a first person shooter and was developed by Monolith Productions and later published by Vivendi. This game was released on 17th October 2005 for use in windows platform. It was ported by Day 1 Studios to Playstation and Xbox 360. Two expansion packs were released by Timegate Studios in 2006. They were Extraction Point and F.E.A.R. Persues Mandate.

The story line is placed around a supernatural effect or phenomenon. F.E.A.R. is a fictional Special Forces team that is called to contain this phenomenon. The player will be in the role of the Point Man of the organization who has supernatural reflexes. He and his team have to uncover the truths behind the menace in a little girl.
The critics have received the game very well. The game scored 89% on ranking and The New York Times called it "as thrilling and innovation as Half-Life".

The game includes combat from the perspective of a first person. The body of the protagonist is completely present, letting the player to watch his character's torso and legs while looking down. Reflex time is a very prominent game play element. This slows down the game and thus allows the player enough time to react. This is used to stimulate the superhuman reflexes of the player. This is represented using visual effects like bullets in flight causing distortion in air. The player uses reflex time when they fire on a group of enemies.
