GLENN ALL SET FOR THE 100TH

Q:   Ask a Question about GLENN ALL SET FOR THE 100TH
Australian veteran Glenn Mc Grath is all set for his 100th test match, adding another milestone in his glorious career which has spanned for more than a decade now.

Glenn McGrath, the great fast bowler, smiled hugely yesterday, even as Australia's cricketers prepared for tonight's flight to Nagpur for their next match.

This is an astonishing landmark for a fast bowler in cricket. Only Courtney Walsh and Wasim Akram have got there.

The man himself had a few words to say and he said that it was a big achievement for a cricketer to reach 100th test match let alone for a bowler to reach it. The nearest for Australia have been Dennis Lillee who has played 70 tests and Craig McDermott with 71 tests under his belt.

This is understandable as fast bowlers have fitness problems and the ir body usually gives in to the wear and tear before the fast bowler can reach his 100th test.

McGrath, 35, played his first international test match against New Zealand at Perth in 1993-94. He has taken 446 Test wickets at an astonishing average of 21.73, with 24 five wickets innings and 10 in a match three times, with a mean economy rate of an unbelievable 2.49.

These are dream figures any fast bowler strives to achieve. If you were to make an all-time Aussie team this man would certainly make to the squad. In fact, a squad without him would be unthinkable and unacceptable by one and all.

His bowling has not changed much. Perhaps he has been a bit on the slower side and a little fuller in length, but still there is accuracy and precision, the hallmark of the brand McGrath with small yet devastating movement.

Nagpur would be a tough wicket for the fast bowlers as it doesn't give any assistance to the fast bowlers but the conditions were tough in Chennai too where he excelled.

All he has to do is to look for reverse swing and then he becomes as deadly as ever, time for Indians to learn some lessons.
