In a psychological approach, freedom implies a capacity to react consciously and with self-control, in a certain constructive direction. On the other hand, freedom can also mean autonomy and self-determination. From a spiritual point of view, freedom may be considered as being a certain inner peace of an individual. Such a person should be experiencing inner control, choice, spontaneity, and fulfillment.
The interpersonal freedoms can be protected through social and political investigation. On the other hand, the inner freedom of an individual is a matter of both philosophy and psychology. These forms of freedom exist in each and every one of the people on earth. Thus, the society is constantly fighting for power in defining the values of individuals and the
individual fighting for acceptance and respect of his or her values from the society.
The spiritual approach defines freedom as the peacefully accepting the reality.
When seen as an inner autonomy, freedom means that an individual can act according to what his reason dictates, or to his true self or values. A person should be able to react independently of what the urges of desire dictate him.
When it comes to political freedom, the lack of constraints can sometimes be a reason for happiness, especially regarding the freedom of speech, of religious practice and of the press. Who wouldn’t wish for something like that?
Personal liberty can mean not being held in prison or not being a victim of an unjust conviction. It may also refer to the benefits of all of the privileges of membership of a place or club. Freedom of thought is also known as freedom of conscience and refers to the right of an individual to hold a particular thought, belief or viewpoint regardless of those held by others.
Therefore, given all these forms of freedom, anyone of you can clearly see that no increase of freedom can necessarily lead to greater happiness. The main reason for this matter is the fact that greater freedom automatically implies more responsibilities for both the governments and the people.
