The 1st of May is known as the International Workers' Day, when people who work are given the day free in order to spend it together with families and friends, in different ways.
The majority of Romanians organize a camping day together with friends. They get into cars and look for a nice place in a forest nearby the place they live. And the activities here are numerous: the most important is to grill meat and drink some beer, for those who don't have to drive. Then, some football or volleyball games may be included, too, because while some prepare the lunch, the others have to enjoy themselves and not get bored. Another common activity is for people to play cards and give orders for those who lose. Music has to sing continuously even if it mixes with the one that
your neighbour family in the forest listens to. The essential thing is for people to enjoy themselves, even to make friends with other persons who have come to have a picnic in the forest, too.
Moreover, going in the mountains for nothing more than two days is also a pleasant thing to do on this occasion. Teenagers especially, or people who enjoy adrenaline, take their rucksacks and tents and leave for the mountains. Apart from the traditional grill, those crazy about the mountain can climb at the tops and admire the beautiful scenery.
On the other hand, many teenagers prefer to go to the seaside, as the 1st of May is also considered to be the opening day at the beach, as warm days are expected to come. The special atmosphere which attracts young people, especially, is the one given by the clubs and restaurants on the beach. People prefer to spend a couple of hours in one of the clubs in Mamaia resort, for example, because people over the country gather here, everybody is eager to make friends and have a little escape from the place they live.
All in all, the 1st of May is a reason to get out of your house and choose a place where to have fun with friends. Even if many people cannot afford to go to the seaside or in the mountains, a grill in a nearby forest is also a means of relaxation and escaping routine.
