Three years ago I had a strange dream. I dreamt that I was telling my husband to accompany me at the gynaecologist's because I thought I was pregnant. The next day, when I woke up, I told him about the strange dream I had had. Who would have thought that that day would change my live forever? I seemed preoccupied and I wanted to see a doctor. Even if I was forty-two there could be chances for me to get pregnant and, moreover, I quite felt a little uncomfortable during the last four months.
Therefore, the next day we went to see a gynaecologist and to our surprise all I had dreamt was true. The doctor simply congratulated me: ‘You are pregnant in four months’. I could not believe it. It was so strange to have a baby at my age and being already mother of a twenty-ye
ar-girl. My husband felt happy, instead. He had always wanted a baby boy and he thought that was a possibility to have him. I did not know what to say and think. Was I prepared to be mother again at my age? Did I have the patience I once had and the necessary time to raise my child? What would my family say and especially my daughter? Would she feel embarrassed in front of her friends when they found out about her future baby brother?
All these questions were running into my mind, but the most important was for me to stay calm. I had to be happy to be mother again because there are women who want to have a baby but they can’t. The news was a shock for me, but this doesn’t mean I didn’t feel happy. The hardest moment was when I had to give my daughter the piece of news, because I did not know how she took the news. But to my surprise her reaction was a positive one. When she was a little child she wished to have a baby and know, even if she was twenty-years old, she felt happy to be sister.
Now I am mother of a cute baby-boy who has changed my life and the one of my entire family, too. He gives us moments of joy and strength to be next to him, and he makes us forget about our advanced age.
