AIMS: by the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
- Provide pieces of information about Australia
- Use the information to write a paragraph about Australia
AIDS: a map of Australia, worksheets, blackboard
WARM UP: Teacher says hello to the students and asks the student on duty to tell the absents and then checks the homework and introduce the new topic.
ACTIVITY 1:
AIMS: to write the facts they have already known about Australia
INTERACTION: T S / S - S
PROCEDURE: Teacher asks students to work in small groups and write down what they know about this continent and them compare the list (
facts) of a group with the other groups' lists.
T asks them: "When you think of Australia,what do you associate it with?
ACTIVITY 2:
AIMS: To develop reading skills.
Find out new information about "The Lucky Country" (Geography, population, size, major cities, language, currency and a few examples of Australian English )
INTERACTION: T S / S- S
PROCEDURE: T asks the students to read a text about Australia silently and find out new things about it or some things Australia is famous for.
The students read the text and find out interesting facts about Australia.
They have to find in the text: four things that show the British origins of the population four types of climate that Australia has things that tourists might see in and outside Sydney.
ACTIVITY 3:
AIMS: To be able to complete a table and some sentences about Australia;
To write a paragraph using the information from the table.
INTERACTION: T - S
PROCEDURE: T asks the students to complete a table with some pieces of information provided by the text they have already read.
After completion they have to go to the blackboard and write, for example,what is the official name of Australia, its political structure, the main sources of income. After that teacher asks the students to complete some sentences from the text.
Finally, the students must use the information from the table and write a paragraph about Australia.
