Activity 2 – Lead-in

Specific competence: to identify the uses of Present Continuous
Method: completing a chart
Procedure: Ss receive a copy of ‘We are continuing presently' and they are asked to work individually to enter the uses of Present Continuous in a chart and then to compare in pairs. Together with the teacher they go over the answers.

Activity 3
General competence: to understand written or oral messages
Specific competence: - to classify timelines
Method: dialogue
Procedure: The teacher draws the timelines in random order on the blackboard and Ss are asked to draw timelines for each sentence and then to compare with his/her deskmate. Then they go over the answers together with the teacher.

Procedure: Ss are asked to work in pairs and to complete a set of sentences, then they go over the answers.

Activity 5
General competence: to understand written or oral messages
Specific competence: - use of structures to convey meanings in speech
Method: discussion
Procedure: Ss are asked to give examples of things, which are changing, in the world at the moment. Then Ss receive one copy of ‘the changing present' and they are asked to read the fourteen statements and to think whether they agree or disagree with them.
The class is arranged into groups and they have to discuss their views on each statement together.
