Lesson: Vegetables and fruits
Teaching aims: - to revise selected vocabulary items (numbers, colours, nouns)
- to practice the newly acquired vocabulary in various contexts
(playing games, describing pictures)
Learning aims: - to acquire new vocabulary items through pictures, sounds,
acting and miming
- to read small texts
- to respond to orders and commands
- to mime actions and feelings
- to describe vegetables
Type of lesson: mixed
Teaching aids: flashcards, photocopies,drawing on the blackboard, poster,
Assumptions: The pupils are familiar with the name of some vegetables and fruits
Anticipated problems:They could become a bit noisy when working in pairs.
Some of them (the dominant ones) may try to answer too often and exclude the others.

Stages - Teac her's activity - Skills - Students' activity - Interaction

Activity 1:
Warm-up
Time: 4'
- Say "Hello!" and ask a few pupils "How are you?" Use the puppet for warm-up game "Simon says" Speaking - Answer to my greeting and my questions
- Do as Simon says Individually
- Start oral interaction "What vegetable and fruits do you know?"
Speaking-Answer questions Individually

Activity 2:
Checking previous knowledge
Time: 5'
- Present the poster and ask them to name and describe briefly what they see Speaking - They name the vegetables and fruits
Individually

Activity 3:
Presentation
Time: 10'
- Ask the students to look on their photocopies to find out more about vegetables and fruits
- ask students to write down names of vegetable and fruits
- Write the date and the title on the blackboard
- Ask the students a few questions about the text, draw on the blackboard and write the new words.
Reading - Writing - Speaking-After looking at the photocopies, they read the sentences themselves - Write the date and the title, answer questions, draw pictures and write the new words in their notebooks. - Individually

Activity 4:
Practice
Time: 25'
- Divide the class into teams of two.Every team must form new words by describing some pictures they have been given on a piece of paper
- help the students by writing on the blackboard various types of questions, such as: What is this?......Is it……? Speaking - The students receive photocopies
-They will have to find out new words
-They will have to answer by using:" That is a…."….."Yes,it is…."No,it isn't a…."
Team work

Activity 5:
Feed-back
Time: 5'
- Ask the students to the fruits and vegetables using the beginning given on the blackboard:
A/An … is…
Writing and reading-They read the vegetables and fruits,also repeating the new words they have just learned - Team work

Activity 6:
Ending the lesson
Time: 10'
- Ask the pupils to stand up and sing the song "Itsy Bitsy spider"
Speaking-They sing the song and move - Team work

Activity 7:
Homework
Time: 1'
- Ask the students to repeat the song and the new words
Listening-They pay attention to what they are supposed to do for next time
