I have come to believe that each and every single person in this world has at least once pondered upon the idea of getting married. It is the nature of man not to lead a solitaire life and try to settle down and have children.
Nevertheless, when did marriage start to become less and less popular? Is it the divorce rate that scares people off? Or is it the way society has changed in the recent years?
Well, divorce has always been a part of peoples’ lives, as it is not a rule that two individuals who get married will by all means get along. They may discover that the person beside them is not as he or she seemed to be in the first place. The fact that people change over the years is also a perfectly good reason for splitting up. The worst part is when childr
en are involved. They are the ones to suffer the most from the parents’ divorce! Unfortunately, none of them ever thinks about the poor child when taking such a decision! People are so selfish, you might say! Yes, this is true, but the truth is that when you have a child, you become entirely responsible for his or her mental well-being. But, hey, not all parents are wise enough to consider that when taking such a dramatic decision. Many of them don’t even deserve the privilege of having a child! Last, but not least, infidelity of one of the partners is also a very big problem in a marriage, causing even bigger dilemmas!
If it is not the divorce thing, then society must surely be the one to make people not want to get married. Along with all the changes that led to such a modern and free society, peoples’ minds are constantly changing too. You cannot even imagine how dissolute the youth has become! They’d rather live with the beloved one for years and years in the same flat, but not once consider leading their partners in front of the altar! The young people no longer want a relationship with strings attached and are very reluctant to take any family responsibilities!
I wonder where this will lead us…What will become of our society in 50 years from now?

Yes, yes and yes. The risk of financial ruin (downside) far exceeds the advantages--I'm unclear about ANY advantage to marriage.

Marriage is between a man and a woman. Jehovah never intended for gays to marry. That is abominable. Marriage is sacred and re-marriage is adultry! Read luke 16:18 in your bible!

This institution is outdated and the government has no buisness being involved in the marriage industry anyhow. If people need to be legally bound for tax purposes then simply change the name to a civil union and allow any and all citizens of this country to pariticipate if they so choose irregardless of their sexual orientation. marriage on the other had is a religious concept and should be left completly out of the court system all-together. if people want to be married and also enjoy the legal perks of a civil union then they should have to get married on their own time and dime which would be completly seperted from making your relationship "legal". What is so hard to understand about this?
