Mercedes Benz E-Class 4Matic: An Overview

Q:   Ask a Question about Mercedes Benz E-Class 4Matic: An Overview
Mercedes Benz already sold thousands of E-class since its introduction. But perhaps the only thing it lacked was the all-wheel drive for colder regions. This fourth generation 4Matic system puts that to a full stop making E-class almost perfect sedan and a wagon. Mercedes-Benz's 4Matic technology first appeared in 1985 on the Series 124 E-Class, later on it was constantly improved and its better versions appeared in 2003 as third generation. And now we've the fourth generation of the technology.

Technically speaking the 4Matic is a permanent all-wheel-drive system which distributes the torque systematically. It diverts 45 percent of torque to the front wheels and 55 percent toward the rear wheels thus adding additional 50 to 70 kilo grams to chassis of corresponding two-wheel drive mod els. The all new Airmatic air suspension needs just a touch of a button to give the car a lift up to 20 mm for improved clearance, and servo valves within the shocks monitor body acceleration and adjust jounce and rebound accordingly, changing damping in as little as 10 milliseconds.

Previously Magnesium units were used for transmissions case but they have been replaced with aluminum case here in 4Matic models. It is lighter, more compact and more fuel efficient than its previous versions. Its mechanical setup is such that minimum time is required to change its settings and get itself adjusted in the traction. It is mounted with all possible latest technological equipments making it a truly a next generation vehicle.

Folks from hot regions might not find any significance of adding the all-wheel drive to it but for people in colder regions, it can definitely take them from one place to another safely no matter what the conditions are there. It provides a lot of security.

The Mercedes' engineers have put in a lot of effort to make it a next generation car, it shows from the 4Matic system architecture and designing of the car. It'll definitely receive a good market when it is introduced which is expected to be in July, 2010. Let us see how people feel about this thinking of Mercedes.
