River Tan seperates france in the north south axis at the tan valley in france.Millau is on the auto route A75 which circumvents the Millau town.It was incomplete without the construction of Millau bridge across the valley created by river tan.the topography of the two ends of the vally is very varied and was very difficult to build asuspension bridge. The Millau bridge(viaduct de Millau) was very essential as the town of Millau attracted huge amounts of visitors who raveled to the south of france every year.this creted massive traffic jams and kilometresd of congestion on either side.

Preliminary study for the construction of the bridge stated in 2001 and stone were laid for construction.the constructin began the same was acombiled project of the French government, british architect sir norman foster, effigel French corporation and structural engineers from various companies of sweede,Denmark and france.

Michel Virlogeux was the chief structural engineer. The idea was suggested that acable atayed bridge would have to be constructed with a metal deck.from the start renowned architect sir norman foster challenged the engineers with his designs of the piles and piers that tower from the gorge. Each trapezoidal pier is 40 mtrs taller than the effiel tower. Each pier that supports the viaduct is an engineering and design marvel and had its share of difficulties while being constructed.

Bridges are supposed to transport people from one end of a point to the other.but for Millau viaduct the case is the designer sir norman foster puts it "flying a car" experience.Clearly at this height one feels like traveling trough the sky and the sense is uncanny and marvelous at the same time.millau viaduct is the fine example of enginnering and design coming together and forming some thing marvelous to look at but also so stong that it can witstand 90 mileas and hr winds and extreme temperatures.Milau viaduct not only created abenchmark but also broke many records.its the hihest cablestayed bridge in the world.its the heaviest at 242,000 tonnes.
