After reading the letter she realized her life would never be the same again. She couldn't believe what she had just read and so she did it again. Still, it was true. She was now extremely rich, the owner of one of the best hotels in London and at the same time partner to one of the most famous law firms in Great Britain.
Her uncle had died and had left his niece all his fortune. They had never met as her mother had argued with her elder brother when she had married a poor doctor. Annie knew very little about her uncle as her parents did not want her to know anything about a rich relative when they barely had anything to eat.
She had struggled all her life to study so that she could provide a better life for her parents. Unfortunately they had died in a car a
ccident and she was alone.
The day she received the letter she had just come back from a job interview where she had been turned down as she wasn't dressed properly.
She knew that all her dreams would come true: she would have fancy dresses, a nice place to live and also the possibility to run her own business. At the same time, Annie was aware of the fact that her cousins would try to fight their father's will but she was ready to confrunt them as she saw everything as a gift from God for all the troubles she had had to endure all her life.
On the other hand, she couldn't help thinking at her parents, at all the difficulties they had to overpass and now when she could give them everything they had ever dreamt of, they had gone. All of a sudden she burst into tears. Even now she couldn't be entirely happy because she was alone. She came to realize that all the money in the world couldn't buy the happiness brought by the persons she loved.

Huh? What does missing one's parents have to do with happiness? That's the art of "moving on" in life. Is she the only person experiencing that kind of loss? She could form a group, talk it over, and soon a bunch of orphans can find happiness in sharing and caring.
Now, here's a contrarian pov on it. I'd come from a dysfunctional home and the best thing that ever happened to me was when I'd found work and stopped communicating with my parents. For me, money had brought happiness.
