My Child is Afraid of School

 Q:
My Child is Afraid of Schoolby Herminne Tonita -

The first day of school is not for all children the most beautiful one. Some of them are really happy and enthusiastic and others don't feel at ease when they enter the classroom for the first time.

Starting with the first grade school becomes the child's second home. Sometimes it represents a reason for frustration and lack of comfort. For these newly pupils the most important fear is not exactly going to school but the separation of their home and their parents. They have been accustomed to having their mother or father around them all the time and now they don't know anything about their teacher or about their mates.

At home he felt protected and all of a sudden he wakes up in a new environment where he has to obey a lot of new rules and always has to behav e properly.

If he is scolded by the teacher of if he argues with one of the classmates he definitely doesn't want to go back there the next day.

Should he e the kind of person who is always trying to make things perfectly he will always fear the fact he won't manage to do it, that he won’t always get only good marks, that he will fail to raise at his parents' expectations.

As a parent you have to help your child defeat his fears. Don’t let him think only at this aspect of his life and make him see school as a part of the daily routine. Moreover tell him a little bit about all the interesting things you used to do when you were a pupil yourself or about what he will experience as his interest for school will rise each day.

On the other hand help him make new friends who will determine him to go to school. If he meets a nice girl or a bout and they begin talking you can be sure the next day he will surely want to go to school.

The first days of school try to go for him and bring him home so that he shouldn't be afraid you forget about him and you leave him sleep there. Try to cooperate and going to school can turn into a pleasant experience.

I have a six year old son who loved attending kindergarten last year, but something has changed. He used to be happy and anxious to attend school, but now when he wakes up in the morning he gets teary eyed, comes up will all types of excuses to not go to school. He's attending the 1st grade with an all male class with a male instructor, I have asked his teacher was there a problem and he said that he had not noticed any bullying or teasing. I just don't know what to do at this point. Will it pass or will it get worse.

I feel so bad for my 10 yr old daughter. She hates school for no particular reasons. She has friends, and doesn't get bullied or anything like that. She even likes her teachers. But when Sunday night comes, her anxiety starts and it manifests into phsyically sick, nauseus, dizzy and all that. Once she is there, she becomes ok after 10-15 mins. But most mornings, she has tears in her eyes and the other kids are wondering why. She gives excuses like her dog is sick,etc....I Feel so bad for her. Some people say I should be tough and don't encourage it and pity her. I am not that way though and we love each other so much and are the bestest friends and share all are feelings with each other. Personally, I think this may have happened because she is an only child and my wife and I LOVED THE DEATH out of her and spend all our time with her and we all have SO MUCH fun all the time travelling and having good times. Then when school comes, its such a drag and she can't stand it. Now, I just don't know what to do. HELP!! Any comments or suggestions? If you can't be nice though, just don't comment at all. i have the same problem. i've been afraid of school for 9 years now. I think school is not for everyone and that if you are someone who is afraid of school and have gave it a chance then you should find other options but never stop going to school its not right. i think if you gave it a big chance and cant take it anymore you should try something else.
