Nature's Supermarket Do you know that nature has the best food to offer? In our fields and forests the food doesn't come in fancy packets. It doesn't have additives that are dangerous to our health. In nature's supermarket, everything is natural. Humans evolved from ancestral apes, and our genes are still reflect a vegetation and small animal eating past. Evolving in Africa and then Asia, we ate a huge range of leaves, buds, flower buds, stems, gums, roots, tubers, and even pollen.

Why do we eat vegetables?

This is a question that would never be asked of fruit. Fruit is sweet. We love sweet things. We love to eat fruit. But vegetables can be bitter, and apart from carrots and sweet potatoes, they are generally not sweet.

Leaves, Roots and Stems :

We eat all the different parts of p lants - the leaves, the stems and the roots. Does this surprise you? Vegetables like carrots and radishes are roots. We eat the stern of the celery plant, and, of course, we make salads with lettuce leaves.

Delicious Fruit :

Many plants and trees grow fruit which is both delicious and good for us. Fruit such as peaches, cherries, grapes and oranges are very tasty and nave many of the vitamins we need for a healthy body. That's why we say, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away!

Great Grains :

Only farm animals eat grains. right? Wrong! We all eat grains every day, for example. wheat, corn and rice. Without grains we can't nave any bread, breakfast cereals or even cakes! So - next time you go shopping, take another look at what nature has to offer!
