The first publications are the invention of the 18th century, being called "daily".
They appeared thank to the restless activity of Richard Steele (1672-1729), the founder of "The Tattler" magazine and Joseph Addison (1672-1719), the founder of "The Spectator". Besides those publications appeardaily newspapers.
Nowadays, there are eleven British daily-newspapers. Every newspaper has its political color, so has the reader his own option.
British Newspapers are divided into two main categories: the so-called "quality papers" with plenty of information, detailed articles about national and international events, and the "tabloid", a sort of magazines, talking about movie stars or sportsmen and showing pictures about their lives. The latter category is considered
to be cheap and uninteresting. It is reflected as "gutter press"
We mention some important publications in Great Britain:
- The Daily Express is founded in 1900, sustaining the Torries.
- The Daily Mail is found in 1896.
- "The Daily Mirror"(1903), "The Daily Telegraph"(sustaining the ideas of the Torries), "The Economist"(1843)
- "The Financial Times"-it is printed on pink paper. He is part of the category "quality papers".
- "The Guardian" appears in 1821, being known then as "The Manchester Guardian".
In 1961 changes its title into "The Guardian", being published both in London and Manchester. "The Sun"(1964)
- "The Independent" (1986)- since 1990 "The Independent on Sunday"
We could include here also the publication "Guinness Book of Records". It appears once a year under the leading of "Guinness Superlatives Ltd", company depending on the beer company called "Guinness".
There are mentioned here the records registered in all kind of areas. So is the expression "I’ll get into the Guinness Book of Records"
