People Resent Having Their Liberty Restricted

 Q:
People Resent Having Their Liberty Restricted by Herminne Tonita -

Even from an early age you have the chance to watch the behavior of the persons around you and one of the features you notice to those is that they resent having their liberty restricted. Let's take as an example a child of about four or five who is curious about everything that goes around him, that he wants to know what mother keeps in that drawer, or what father keeps on the desk or why the TV set is so magic and it speaks by itself. Trying to do all these means messing up the entire house and really annoying his mother, who has to clean after him.

And now goes the most beautiful part, when you have to tell him: "You are not allowed to that or this! Don't go there!" and other lines like these that make the little one so upset that he starts crying, hoping that by doing this he will impress his mother.

Watching this simple example you realize that people don't like to have restrictions imposed by others, that they really hate being told what to do and how to do it, when they feel their freedom of choice has to suffer.

It is something else when you decide on your own what to do. You feel you are the only master of your life and you are responsible for your actions.

When teenagers do something stupid and get punished by their parents by not being allowed to go out or by getting no money they feel angry and powerless. They depend financially on their parents and they have to obey the rules. Their liberty is restricted and their personality also has to suffer because there are moments when they choose not to take certain actions for fear they might be wrong and be punished.

Freedom is a constitutional recognized civil right and we are all free to do what we consider to be the best thing for us, but after we turn 18, which legally proves we are adults and we are capable of taking the right decisions and assume the consequences.
