Rumsfeld says the American are ready for War

Q:   Ask a Question about Rumsfeld says the American are ready for War
Donald Rumsfeld, the then United States Defense Secretary, claimed that American forces were ready to wage a war on Iraq. Mr. Rumsfeld said that all the forces via land, air and sea were within striking distance of Iraq.

He said that he was skeptical about the ever lengthening diplomatic talks with allies of America and this even if it happens it would not deter the forces to move.

Mr. Rumsfeld said that President George Bush agrees on the idea of going to war, United States and its allies had a myriad number of forces in place.

He also said that they are at a point where if the President takes the decision to indulge in warfare, Mr. Rumsfeld’s Department of defense is thoroughly prepared and has the capabilities and the strategy go on war in the desert country in the Gulf.

As Turkey which is one of United States allies, was reluctant to allow huge number of American soldiers to use Turkish territory as a launching pad, America’s military operations have been postponed to several weeks from Mid-February which was earlier aimed at the time for going to war. Using Turkey’s territory would enable American troops the northern gate for Iraq’s entry.

War experts said that the way Mr. Rumsfeld is going on commenting everywhere it reflects a sign of the preparedness to enter the warfare. They quoted that it may also include of a pre-emptive attack by Saddam Hussein or some other unforeseen event.

Though the US Commander, General Tommy Franks said that America hasn’t deployed enough troops to launch an invasion on Iraq.

In this case the British forces are the most delayed. The government of Britain had committed twenty five thousand troops out which only 8000 have reached the Gulf so far. On the American side they have deployed more than 130,000 American soldiers there. This includes a heavy infantry division and a marine division in Kuwait region which are thoroughly covered by air from four US aircraft carriers and their battle groups in the Gulf and eastern Mediterranean.

Once the tanks and other heavy equipment are brought to the Gulf region the Americans shall then will be driving them all the way or taking them by rail to staging areas inland along the Iraqi border.
