A tale linked to Phaeton, a son of Helios the Sun, bragged of his heritage but wasn’t believed went to Helios to request to drive the sun chariot for one day. It was on this day that Phaeton lost control of the horses, and went too high and encountered the scorpion, over correcting Phaeton dipped back to earth and came in too low, burning the vegetation on earth. Zeus was forced to strike the chariot to prevent any further damage to the earth.
