Shiatsu ExercisesShiatsu is a Japanese healing art. It uses finger pressure to re-energise the body and relieve a variety of health problems, tension and pain.

"Shiatsu technique refers to the use of fingers and palm of one's hand to apply pressure to particular sections on the surface of the body for the purpose of correcting the imbalances of the body, and for maintaining and promoting health. It is also a method contributing to the healing of specific illnesses."

You can always try these simple exercises :

1 First, with the thumbs of both hands, find the indentations at the bottom of your skull (at the top of your neck, on either side of your backbone). Spread your fingers out at the sides of your head as you apply pressure with your thumbs for about 15 seconds. Stay relaxed and repeat .

2 Find the indentation at the top of your head. Apply gentle pressure to this point, with one of your thumbs, for about15 seconds, resting your fingers on your forehead. Stay relaxed and repeat.

3 Place the little finger of your left hand on the hairline in the middle of your forehead. Spread your fingers about a centimetre apart along a middle 'parting', resting your thumb on the side of your head.

Apply pressure first with your little finger, then your ring finger, then your middle finger and then your index finger. Repeat the whole thing three times, without lifting your fingers.

The characteristic of Shiatsu is to practice using only the fingers, palms and especially the thumbs, but the essence of Shiatsu is “Diagnosis and Therapy combined.”
