Smelly giants

Q:   Ask a Question about Smelly giants
Smelly giants The biggest flower of all is the rafflesia, a parasitic plant that does not photosynthesize. It grows in the rainforests of southeast Asia. The plant grows underground and is not visible until a huge bud appears, like a cabbage.

This opens up into a leathery flower 1 m across and weighing up to 11 kg.

The flower looks and smells just like a huge lump of rotting flesh and it attracts thousands of flies, which pollinate the flower as they walk on it. The berry contains sticky seeds that are spread by rodents.
