Taurus Taurus is the second sign of the zodiac. Classified as a Taurean if you were born between April 21st - May 21st, people within this classification tend to derive great satisfaction from results obtained by personal efforts, using a tried and tested methodical process. The traditional traits for the Taurean are amongst others patient, warmhearted, placid and persistent; but can also be possessive, resentful and greedy.

Mythology: In Ancient Greece, bulls were sacrosanct to Poseidon, as well as Dionysis. There were many myths of Taurus, in one such legend: Taurus represents the white bull which sired the famous Minotaur, whose mother was the wife of King Minos of Crete. Taurus was sent to Minos as rightful heir to the throne; however, Minos did not sacrifice the bull to Poseidon as he had been instructed to do, so the ever-vengeful Poseidon caused Pasipha, Minos queen, to fall in love with the creature. Whilst in ancient Egypt, the goddess Hathor was often associated with Taurus. They gave great significance to the constellation Taurus in both religion and astrology, the great starry bull of the Nile.

Taurus is an earth element and is ruled by the planet Venus - which is the planet of love and money, hence a Taurean's greed on the one hand, and their love and devotion on the other. The sign itself indicates the concern of self-manifestation, with its basic needs being most important. The sign governs the neck and throat - and the Taurean is prone to ailments in and around this area of the body.

Taurus' ideal compatibility signs are those of Virgo and Capricorn, and is said to be completely incompatible with Leo and Aquarius.

With the constellation of Taurus being the closest zodiacal sign to Earth, the main objective of leading a Taurean life is primarily focused on maintaining stability and physical concerns, seeking wholesome values and earthly harmony. And in seeking these qualities a Taurean will seek in a persistent, thorough and single minded fashion.

Noted Taureans include: Stevie Wonder, Bono, Barbara Streisand, Janet Jackson, Al Pacino, Audry Hepburn, and James Brown.
