According to the rules, white always makes the first move. The King can only move one space in any direction while the Queen can go in any direction, as many spaces you want it go.
The rook can be moved any number of spaces either horizontally or vertically and the bishop moves only diagonally, any number of spaces. The knight is the only chess piece that may jump over other pieces and it can move two spaces vertically and then one space horizontally or two spaces horizontally and then one space vertically.
The pawn can only be moved to spaces forward in the first turn and then only one spa
ce forward. Also it can capture the opponent's chess pieces only diagonally one space forward.
An opponent's piece can be captured when your chess piece land on the same square displaying the opponent's piece.
If you make a move where opponent's King has the threat of being captured in your next move, then you must say "Check".
After that the opponent could either move his king into another space, capture the piece that is threatening to capture the King or move another chess piece in front of the King to protect him from check.
In case of the event where neither of the above options are possible then the opponenet is "Checkmated" and thus losses.
If the players can only check their opponents and no more, then the game is "Stalemated" and results in a draw.
