The human brain

Q:   Ask a Question about The human brain
The human brain The human brain is the topmost priority organ. It carries out thinking, taking decisions and is completely responsible for a person's behaviour. Biologically, the brain is the main part of the central nervous system. It gets information from the sensory nerves, takes the decision and gives the command to the motor nerves which carries out the command.

The brain is located in the skull, also called the cranium which is a bony box for the protection of brain. It is covered by three membranes called meninges and the spaces between these membranes are filled with fluid called cerebrospinal fluid.

It helps brain to bear all kinds of mechanical shocks. The human brain is bilobed and both these lobes are exact copies of each other. It is divided into three main parts: fore brain, mid brai n and hind brain.

The fore brain has cerebrum and diencephalon. Cerebrum is further divided into four lobes. The frontal lobe has centres for control of muscles, lips, arms and legs movement, chewing swallowing and movement of tongue and also thinking during conscious state.

The parietal lobe contains nerves sensory to touch, temperature, pressure on skin and pain. The temporal lobe is responsible for olfactory and auditory reception whereas the centres for vision are located in the occipital lobe.

The mid brain, a part of the brain stem possesses centres for touch and hearing.

The hind brain is also a part of the brain stem, is divided into cerebellum, Pons and medulla oblongata. The Pons connects the cerebellum and the central nervous system by a transverse band of nerves. It also helps in movement of head as per audio visual stimulus.

The medulla oblongata regulates the heart beat, pulse rate, breathing, sneezing, vomiting, swallowing, hiccups, etc and all those involuntary actions which are not under our control.

The cerebellum moves the muscles with coordination and gives rise to graceful and rhythmic movements. It is responsible for body balance and posture. The nerves arising from brain are called cranial nerves and the brain stem gives rise to the spinal cord.

Thus, by the combination of forebrain, mid brain and hind brain forms the most wonderful and amazing part of the human body.
