The process of thinking is the cognitive mental process which, through analytic and synthetic operations, abstracting and generalizing ones, obtains products under the form of an idea, concept or judgement.
As part of the relation between human beings and the surrounding reality, psychology seems to be a mental activity. In this case we deal with the structure and dynamics of the mental activity. As part of the relation between human beings and the society, psychology seems to be a system of the mental features of the individual as a social human being. Taking into consideration the first relation, the human being is like a singular being and psychology belongs to that human being.
As part of the mental activity, we can distinguish two basic categories:
2. mental features.
Mental processes are those interactions which are suitable for the relations between the human being and the surrounding reality.
Mental processes are divided into three categories: cognitive, affective and adjustable processes (these ones may be voluntary or involuntary).
Sensations, perceptions, representation, imagination and the process of thinking, all these are considered to be cognitive mental processes.
Cognition for instance, is one of the terms used by psychologists to describe the process of thinking. The cognitive psychologists study this process of thinking, people's way of learning; organize their knowledge and their problems.
Representation is the actual reproduction of a past mental image. It is also an intuitive mental process, set up through that reflection which is realized provided that the direct relationship between subject and object is a past one.
Objective reality has in its structure both the entity and the relation. There are not only internal-constitutive relationships, but also external ones.
An idea consists of the exploitation of the mental image. The structure of a complex idea represents the meaning of the word itself.
The main operations in the process of thinking are: analyses, syntheses, comparisons, generalizations, abstracting and concretizations.
To conclude, the process of thinking is a process of understanding and this may be demonstrated with the help of a problematic activity. On the one hand, it is about that understanding through which the reality's data are set and on the other hand, it is about that understanding which helps us get the solving of the problems.
