Numerology and numerological divination were popular among early mathematicians, such as Pythagoras, but are no longer considered part of mathematics and are regarded as pseudomathematics by most modern scientists. This is similar to the historical development of astronomy out of astrology, and chemistry from alchemy.
In the sixth century BC, Pythagoras, the father of mathematics, taught 'number theory', which included geometry and numerology. He believed that everything in the universe was influenced by predictable cycles, and that the numbers one to nine were the key to these patterns. And numbers are just as significant today. As you come to understand how to work out your own and others' numbers, you will see that many of your closest friends and partners have a
t least one number in common with you. For example, members of the same family are often born on the same day of the month (a mother on 12th January, her daughteron 12th February). We discover our own personal numbers by using calculations based on our names and birth date. It is these numbers which have the most influence on our numeroscope forecast.
Today, numerology is often associated with the occult, alongside astrology and similar divinatory arts. The term can also be used for those who, in the view of some observers, place excess faith in numerical patterns, even if those people don't practice traditional numerology.
