Situated in the Western part of Romania, at the border between the Occident and the Orient, a multicultural and multiethnic space, Timisoara is the largest town in Banat and the forth town in Romania taking into account the number of its inhabitants. The first mentioning of the town dates to the XIII th century, more exactly in 1212 as Castrum Temisiensis, or Castrum Regium Themes. In the XIV th century the town becomes one of the most powerful center from Banat and its economy flowers due to the trade with countries from Europe and not only.

The next century the development of the town was supported by Iancu. In 1552 Timisoara was conquered by the Turks and it became the household for their leader for 164 years. In 1716, after the Austriacs conquered the region it became the residence of Banat and in 1780 was declared a "free town".

When a tourist gets to Timisoara he is amazed by the mixture of cultural trends and styles of architecture that he finds here. One of the monuments you can't miss are: Huniazi Palace, the Old Building of the Town hall, the Palace of the Administration, the Art Museum, the Wooden Church, Dicasterial Palace, the Military Casino, the National Theatre.

If you are a fun nature you have where to choose from: many parks, gardens, places where you can walk and enjoy the fresh air where pollution doesn’t have anything to say. Timisoara can boast with the fact it shelters the first theatre in Romania which was founded in 1753. It is also the first town in Romania where electricity appeared in 1899. In 1942 the tram was used for the first time in Eastern Europe. In 1882 Timisoara became the first town in Europe illuminated with electricity. It is one of the fewest towns in our country that still keeps and values Medieval art and monuments. Here old and new come together to give place to one of the treasures Romania has.
