Virgo is the sixth sign of the zodiac, heralding the end of summer. It has always been seen as a symbol of fertility. Virgo is an Earth element, ruled by Mercury. The colors of Virgo are Navy Blue, Dark Gray and Brown with the Sardonyx as their gemstone. Virgo’s dates run from August 23 through September 22. The Virgoan is generally seen as reserved and conventional.Mythology :
The Romans recognized Virgo as the Goddess of Fields and Growing Crops, known as Ceres. In ancient Rome, Virgo was also identified as Prosperina, Wheat bearing maiden, the daughter of Ceres and Jupiter. As legend has it, Prosperina was abducted by Pluto, God of the Underworld, and taken away. Ceres sought in vain for Prosperina, neglecting the crops resulting Earth being threatened by famine. Jupiter o rdained that Pluto must allow Prosperina to live in the Upperworld for six months, with Ceres and the other six months with Pluto in the Underworld, thus the constellation of Virgo can only be seen from March to August. Virgo has also been associated with Isis in the Egyptian mythology.
Virgo is considered a feminine character, due to its earth element. Thus the feminine character is perceived as more receptive, and primarily focused on the material and emotional world.Virgo rules the bowels and intestines.
Positive traits of the Virgo are meticulous, tidy, modest, shy and intelligent. The negative traits are conservative, harsh, fussy and finicky. Whilst the Virgo likes hygiene, precision, perfection and order; they dislike uncertainty, sordidness and health hazards.
Compatible with Capricorn, Taurus, Cancer and Scorpio.
