People nowadays are very attentive with their material goods, especially when it is about their house or car, which are considered to be the most valuable material goods of a common person. We are living in a society characterized by robbery and people whom we cannot trust.
Therefore, when going to the neighbour living next door to you, you will lock your flat, even if you are going to be away just for five minutes and no more. You cannot risk leaving the door opened, because there are many suspicious neighbours and also people visiting your building.
Moreover, people are much more preoccupied when leaving for a couple of days, in a holiday or with a problem outside the place they live. They lock their flats and houses with more than one lock and also ask a nei
ghbour, whom they are friends with to please look from time to time to see if everything is all right with their house. On the other hand, there are families who prefer to make some special lattice work and use it while being away, as this method offers more protection to their houses. Alarm systems have begun to be used lately, and they are a good means to keep away burglars.
Also, people take good care of their cars and always lock them no matter if they are in front of their house, in the parking area where they work or just somewhere downtown. There have been many cases when people have been robbed their cassettes recorders or other goods, just because they have left their cars opened for no more than a couple of minutes.
The saddest thing is that nowadays there are many experienced thieves who adopt different and modern means of how to break a flat. They prefer to rob houses and flats of rich people and they investigate when these are away from home, to know to exact moment when to break the house. The same happens with cars, because when a thief is in a desperate need of money he will simply break the window of your car, rob your CD player and run away. Or he will just open the door with special keys and rob your car, soon before the police will have arrived.
