I have never had a serious relationship with a boy, at least no more than three months, which means that I am almost always alone, because it is very hard for me to find a boy who can carry out all my standards. Even if I sometimes envy the couples around me, I have never felt so bad that I don’t have a serious relationship with a boy, even though I am twenty-three years old.
The point is that I always find advantages of being single, especially when I see how my friends quarrel or suffer because of their boyfriends. The first most important advantage, in my opinion, is that I have all the independence I need. I don’t have to depend on my boyfriend, to call him each time I get out of my house and tell him where I go or what I have to do. I hate having to give explan
ations and being controlled, any maybe this is one of the reasons for which I can’t have long time relationships.
Moreover, I love going out with my friends, but without my boyfriend. I mean that from time to time girls need to go downtown alone, without their boyfriends. But the latter can’t stand the idea that their lovers go in a club without them, because they fear the girls will cheat on them. And this is a wrong point, because this means there is no true confidence between the lovers. And on the other hand going out without your girlfriend is a means of no getting bored of the relationship, of not suffocating your pair.
And then, why do we have to be with somebody if we aren’t really in love with that person and we only continue the relationship for reasons of commodity? From my point of view, such a relationship means losing precious time and the possibility to meet somebody else who is worth to be given a chance. If a relationship doesn’t function as it should, it is better to end it up sooner, because if not one of the partners will cheat on the other at a certain moment.
All in all, I consider that being single offers much more independence and the chance to do all the things that one enjoys without having to give explanations to his or her partner, who may have other tastes or conceptions. This means less quarrels and suffering, but the possibility to be free and take the decisions you wish.
