How many times haven't you been introduced to somebody and in the next second you have forgot that person's name?? Well, to me this has happened several times, and I admitted that I have a problem in remembering new people's names.
I can't understand for what reason I frequently forget the name of someone I have just been introduced to. I think that sometimes it is because I don't pay attention to the person's name the moment he or she tells it to me. I may be thinking at something else and I possibly don't even hear the name. Moreover, the person I’m introduced to may be of no interest for me and that is why I don’t bother myself in learning his or her name. But the embarrassing situation is when we have met a person several times, we greet each other, he or she
knows our name but we can’t remember his or hers.
In this situation we have two alternatives: either apologise to that person for having forgotten his or her name, or asking about that person's name, somebody we know and is acquaintance of that person, too. Still, if we cannot adopt either of these alternatives, the most frequent situation is to fail to use that person's name, and just make use of the second person pronoun.
However, there may be cases when we are introduced to more than three persons without being able to understand whose name is whose, even if a common friend explains us three times who is who. If we don't meet too often persons we are introduced to, then it is difficult to remember their names, especially when we aren't so interested about them.
To conclude with, I consider that when we forget the name of somebody we have been introduced to, we should ask him or her to tell us the name once more because unfortunately we don’t remember it. We don't have to feel embarrassed as this can happen to each one of us, and as long as we are polite to that person, he or she won't feel unpleasant about the situation we have caused.
