« The inclusive education implies a permanent process of improving the school institution, having the aim of exploiting the existing resources, especially the human resources, in order to sustain the participation of all the community students to the educational process. »(MEN, UNICEF,1999)
The inclusive schools are open, friendly, tolerant, democratic and comprehensive schools , without discrimination and exclusion, where all the students are turned to good account and integrated. These schools will develop a climate of multicultural capitalization , without discrimination and they will support the integration of children with special educational needs by promoting the self respect.
School integration- is a process of including the children considered as having special educational
needs into the mass schools/ usual classes, in the formal and informal educational activities . Considering the school as the main instance of the child’ socialization ( the family being considered as the first socialization instance), the school integration represents a particularization of the social integration process of this category of children, a process which has a fundamental importance in facilitating the subsequent integration into the community life by forming behaviours and attitudes, dispositions and abilities favourable to this process. Moreover, the school integration of children with special educational needs allows, under the teachers’ attentive guidance, the perception and correct understanding by normal students of the problems and the potential of relationship and participation to the community life of their neighbours who, because of reasons independent of their will, need a different approach of the instructional and education process in schools and certain facilities for their access and participation at the services offered by the community.
Principles of inclusive education :
Every student has an inherent right to education on basis of equality of opportunity.
No student is excluded from, or discriminated within education on grounds of race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national, ethnic or social origin, disability, birth, poverty or other status.
All students can learn and benefit from education.
Schools adapt to the needs of students, rather than students adapting to the needs of the school.
The student’s views are listened to and taken seriously.
Individual differences between students are a source of richness and diversity, and not a problem.
The diversity of needs and pace of development of students are addressed through a wide and flexible range of responses.
