Being able to speak at least a foreign language nowadays offers great advantages. English has become the first international language, which helps millions of people around the world to communicate. Even if it is a little bit harder for some of us to gain the English accent, learning its grammar and vocabulary is enough in order to be able to make yourself understood.
Even from an early age, children in kindergarten begin to learn words in English, because they are told that it is necessary to learn this language in order to use the computer and play games. This is an impulse for those who don’t like English and consider it useless in their future. Anyway, having a common language that the majority of people on our planet are able to speak is very important for a
better communication from the economical, cultural and educational point of view.
Moreover, there are many people who want to know more than one foreign language, as they feel attraction for foreign idioms and they like to travel a lot. Spanish, German, Italian and French are four idioms of important usage all over the world. In Romanian primary schools, one of these foreign languages is being introduced to be learned together with English. It is essential for pupils to have some basic notions of at least two foreign languages, even if they won’t study both of them in the college or at university, later. Still, English is the only subject learnt also at college and university, no matter the area of studying one has chosen.
However, being able to speak a foreign language does not only imply having notions of its vocabulary and grammar. It is also essential to have the opportunity to travel to the country when that specific language is spoken, as it will help one develop his or her skills in communication.
To conclude with, I believe that English will be the language of major importance all around the world and that, present and future generations, will have to use it frequently, once that knowing at least one foreign language is necessary when trying to obtain a good job. Moreover, I consider that Spanish will acquire an important position, because it is not such a difficult language to learn and there are many soap-operas on the TV which both teenagers and adults choose to watch.
