Avril Lavigne Can't Be Wrong. Part II

Q:   Ask a Question about Avril Lavigne Can't Be Wrong. Part II
Avril Lavigne's debut album Let Go was the third-best-selling album of 2002 in U.S. This is really surprising, but the smart marketing has certainly helped a lot in obtaining this results. The young audience, tired and bored of glitzy teen disco, received with great interest and enthusiasm Lavigne's first album. Everyone appreciated her music and especially, her lyrics. However it is unclear how much songwriting she does. You have to get by the handwritten lyrics and examine Let Go's liner notes very carefully to find out whom wrote what, and the booklet contains photos of Lavigne's touring band, which doesn't actually play on the record. According to Avril Lavigne, she is writing her songs. She declared this many tim es and without any other evidences, we must agree with her. Also, she agreed with the idea that for some songs from Let Go, she had some help.

And then there's the issue of her punk-rock creed, or lack thereof. It's a delicate subject for Avril Lavigne, who is trying to avoid using the p word these days. Still, her band mates, all veterans of small-time punk bands, are quickly jumping to defend her. "I can totally understand why people would be pissed off at Avril. But it's not her fault. Punk pop is in right now, and someone out there thought they could capitalize on it with Avril. You can look kind of punky without listening to punk rock or writing punk-rock music." says her guitarist Jesse Colburn, who used to play in an Ontario band named Closet Monster.

Avril Lavigne never questioned her position as a star. She has always believed that her destiny is to become a famous artist. "We knew she was talented, but we didn't realize how talented," says Judy Lavigne, Avril Lavigne's mother. Avril was the middle child of three -- she has a brother, Matthew, who's almost two years older, and a sister, Michelle, who's three years younger. Judy and husband John became aware of Avril's singing ability when she was only two years old. "One day I started singing 'Jesus Loves Me,' and I couldn't believe it when she sang along," Judy also says.
